History

In 1918, Dr. Edwin N. Meuser (1880 - 1970) from Canada founded the School of Pharmacy, which was the predecessor of the West China School of Pharmacy. In 1932, the school became officially associated to the West China Union University (WCUU) as the Department of Pharmacy, which was one of the first institutes offering full-time undergraduate programs in pharmacy in China. In 1953, the institute was renamed as the Department of Pharmacy of Sichuan Medical College offering two programs – Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. In 1985, the name was changed to the Department of Pharmacy of West China University of Medical Sciences. In March 1987, the Department of Pharmacy and the Institute of Meteria Medica merged into the School of Pharmacy. In 1989, the School of Pharmacy started to recruit undergraduate students majoring in Clinical Pharmacy. In October 2000, the West China University of Medical Sciences and the former Sichuan University merged into the new Sichuan University. Our school name was then changed to the West China School of Pharmacy (WCSP), Sichuan University.
