The Department of Natural Medicinal Chemistry offered programs that encompasses two different academic areas, natural medicinal chemistry and pharmacognosy. The broad spectrum of research interests includes the development of natural medicine resources, isolation of bioactive ingredients and total synthesis of natural products. The department has 1 key laboratory of Sichuan province (Key Laboratory of Natural Medicinal Chemistry). There are 16 teachers, including 5 professors and 7 associate professors. Among them, there is one recipient of the National Scientific Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and one recipient of the Trans-Century Training Programs Foundation for the Talents by the Ministry of Education, respectively. The department has been in charge of a range of research projects, including Drug Innovation Major Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In recent years, it has become an outstanding department of both natural medicine research and talent student training in China, distinguished with two research areas of alkaloid chemistry and glycochemistry.
