Biography

Yong was born and grew up in Sichuan province located in the southwest of China. He majored in Pharmaceutical Science in Sichuan University as an undergraduate student and got his B.S. degree in 2013. Then he went to Peking University to pursue his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Biology under the guidance of Professors Xin-Shan Ye and De-Cai Xiong. During his Ph.D., Yong’s research was focused on the chemical syntheses of complex carbohydrate antigens of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis cell wall and the investigation of their biological functions. After a brief postdoctoral stint at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Yong moved to Northwestern University to join the Stoddart group as a Postdoctoral Fellow in July 2020. Since September 2023, Yong has been working as a Research Assistant Professor in the Stoddart group at the University of Hong Kong. In February 2025, Yong returned to his undergraduate alma mater to start his independent career with financial support from the National Natural Science Fund for Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas). Yong’s current research interests mainly include carbohydrate-based drug discovery and the syntheses of cyclic oligosaccharides that can perform molecular recognition.
