Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences
The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at West China School of Pharmacy was established in 1932. The department started to offer master's program in 1981 and doctoral program in 1986. The discipline of Pharmaceutical Sciences was certified as a key discipline of Sichuan Province in 2004 and a national key discipline in 2007. Currently, our department have 16 faculty members, including eight professors, seven associate professors, and one associate investigator.
Research
Focusing on drug targeting and advanced drug delivery systems, students and scholars carry out fundamental and translational studies on the cutting edge. In the past 10 years, faculties from our department has undertaken one major project, two key projects and more than 40 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, one key research and development project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, two national 973 projects, three 863 projects and more than 300 other provincial and ministerial level projects. More than 20 new drugs have been developed, 7 of which have been approved and marketed, and 3 of which have been listed in "Chinese Pharmacopoeia" and "National Essential Medicine List". In the past decade, over 300 papers were published in Nat Commun, Sci Adv, and other high-impact journals.
Education & Training
Our goal is to train research-oriented high-level talents. The department offers more than ten courses such as Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Experiments, Advanced Drug Delivery and Targeting (teaching in English) for undergraduates, and nearly ten courses such as Advanced Pharmaceutics for postgraduates. Recently, the "Virtual Teaching and Research Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences" was jointly established by the Department of Pharmacy of West China School of Pharmacy of Sichuan University and the Department of Pharmacy of Peking University, Lanzhou University and Shenyang Pharmaceutical University, which was approved as the first provincial virtual teaching and research department in Sichuan Province in 2022. In the past ten years, over 100 doctoral and 300 master students graduated.
International activities
Focusing on the novel drug delivery system, scholars have actively organized academic events such as the International Pharmaceutical Formulation Forum and the Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences Young Scholars Forum. International research collaborations have been conducted with the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, University College London, University of Manchester, University of Michigan, University of Auckland, Karolinska Institute and others. Prof. Xun Sun serves as the associate editor of Journal of Controlled Release, and Molecular Therapy. Prof. Yuan Huang serves as the associate editor of Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Prof. Qin He serves as the associate editor of European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics.
