The Department of Medicinal Chemistry has a profound historical and academic foundation. It originated from the sub-discipline of pharmacy in the former Department of Pharmacy, School of Science, West China Union University founded in 1932. The Department of Medicinal Chemistry was approved by The State Council to offer master's degree in 1979, and doctor's degree in 1981, and the postdoctoral research station in 1991. It is one of the earliest and most influential medicinal chemistry departments in China, and also one of the earliest teaching and research departments in the School of Pharmacy, and one of the important bases for training medicinal chemistry professionals in China. The academic leaders in the department are also influential nationwide in their research field. In recent years, it has advantages in the development and research of targeted drugs, chiral drugs, asymmetric catalytic synthesis, novel dendritic active peptide-drugs, anti-tumor drugs, generic drugs and etc., particularly, the design and synthesis of targeted drugs, and the asymmetric synthesis of chiral drugs. At present, the department has 19 academic staffs, including 1 academician, 8 professors, 10 associate professors and associate researchers. Among them, there are 11 doctoral supervisors, 7 master supervisors, 1 winner of the National Outstanding Youth Fund and 2 winners of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Excellent Young Scientists Fund.
